about

the publication

What would we do differently if anxiety weren’t a disorder to medicate, but an opportunity to upgrade our nervous systems? in process is a publication and podcast inviting a new conversation about anxiety within an anxious, deeply stressed-out culture.

We explore the landscape of mental wellness for women, whose hormones, gut health, and environment shape their experience just as much as any thought or mindset does. Our focus is finding the connection points between the physical, environmental, and the spiritual—and how finally looking at all three together can give us a more complete picture of human health.

Expect guests from every corner of the wellness universe, the latest clinical research translated for a modern reader, and a raw, unfiltered look companioning the author on her personal journey. in process is an experiment: what happens when you openly share the writing process of a book with your readers…and invite them in to help to co-create it, the research, the process, and everything in-between.

in process is also a meditation on showing up. Not as the fully-formed and Instagram-perfect version of yourself, but as the truest and most authentic one you are today.

The forthcoming book will share research and practices that can help women understand themselves and their mental wellness like never before, exploring how anxiety shows up uniquely for them—as an invitation to deeper healing, and to greater fulfillment and joy.

lauren Suriya

Lauren Suriya’s work operates at the intersection of science and spirit: helping to demystify esoteric, overly-technical and unreachable concepts, making healing accessible and simple for a modern audience.

Lauren has spent sixteen years supporting others and studying healing from the inside out. She began in Functional Nutritional Therapy, supporting people managing complex medical conditions as well as high performers, athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs, helping them understand their bodies better and heal through simple food and nutrient-based interventions.

Her foundation is in functional health, with particular depth in psychoneuroimmunology — the study of how environmental and genetic inputs interact with the mind and the immune system, and how those interactions shape our hormones, our nervous systems, and our lives.

Out of that work she developed a custom genetic analysis protocol to bring real, actionable insights from epigenetic science into personalized, holistic wellness care. She also served as head of education for a multi-state medical cannabis company, and studied therapeutic work with plant medicines in both Western and traditional Indigenous contexts.

While living in the Mexican Yucatán Peninsula, Lauren worked alongside the local Mayan Indigenous community to bring traditional psychedelic and somatic therapies to U.S. clinicians wanting an alternative basis for training amid the emergent and exploding interest in psychedelic medicines, and to those seeking healing from all over the world.

She is currently writing a book, drawing on what she learned as a psychedelic medicine educator and facilitator, and as a nutritionist and student of functional and epigenetic health. Her approach to mental wellness centers on healing the whole person and understanding bio-individuality: a truly integrative practice that is both trauma-informed and attentive to gut and hormonal health and nervous system regulation.

She currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her family, where she enjoys gardening, nurturing a Korean skincare addiction, decorating homes, working with paint and clay, and spoiling her therapy dog, Blue.
